The following download is a Sudoku puzzle solver. You will need to have MSAccess 2000 or greater to run this program.
This program solves the puzzles by two methods. First it calculates values of and the total number of possibles for each empty square. If there is only one possible for a square, then that is the answer for that square. It then examines the row, column, and group to determine if there is only one place where a specific number can go. For example, if the number 9 can not go in any other square, then by process of elimination it must go in the remaining square. If it does not solve on the first try this may mean several things.

There is no solution.

There are multiple solutions. That's right, some puzzles have more than one. To solve these, transfer the partial solution back to the first form. Find one that has only two options and take a guess. You may have to repeat this and it may lead to false trails.

The third catagory is one that although it has a unique solution you must guess at some point, and then follow the trail until until you have to guess again and or back track and go a different route. Logically speaking, any completed puzzle can be put in this catagory by simply removing enough numbers.
Many serious players do not generally recognize these as suduco puzzles if they can not be solved by logic
